Bronchiectasis and MAC Lung Infection Care in Las Vegas
Bronchiectasis widens and scars your airways, so mucus builds up and infections keep coming back. Some patients also develop MAC, a slow-growing lung infection caused by bacteria found in water and soil. Las Vegas patients often struggle to find a specialist who treats both. Dr. Anisa Valina does.
Symptoms
- A daily cough with mucus
- Frequent chest infections or bronchitis
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue and unplanned weight loss
- Coughing up blood (call your doctor right away)
Diagnosis
Dr. Valina reviews your history and orders a CT scan of your chest and sputum cultures to look for MAC and other infections. Pulmonary function testing, including DLCO, happens in our clinic.
Treatment
Care focuses on clearing mucus, preventing flare-ups, and treating infection. Your plan often includes airway clearance techniques, inhaled medications, and antibiotics for flare-ups. MAC treatment uses a combination of antibiotics over many months, with regular monitoring.
