Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Care in Las Vegas, NV
Chronic kidney disease is usually picked up on a routine blood test, an elevated creatinine, a low eGFR, or protein found in the urine, and then explained to the patient with words like "stage 3" and "monitor it" without the time it deserves. Our role as nephrologists is to take that time. We translate the numbers into plain language, look at why your kidneys are doing what they're doing, and make a clear plan for slowing progression and protecting function.
What an initial CKD visit covers
We review the full history, your diabetes, blood pressure, family history, medication list (including over-the-counter NSAIDs and supplements), prior imaging, and any history of kidney stones or urinary symptoms. We confirm and stage the CKD with current labs, check urine for protein, image the kidneys when indicated, and look for the conditions that often coexist with kidney disease, anemia, bone and mineral disorder, and uncontrolled blood pressure.
Slowing progression
For most patients with CKD, three interventions matter most: tight blood pressure control, careful glycemic control if diabetes is part of the picture, and use of modern kidney-protective medications when they are appropriate. We discuss which medications to avoid, which to dose- adjust, and how diet changes are likely (and unlikely) to affect your trajectory. We do not push restrictive diets that you can't sustain or that aren't supported by your stage.
Coordinated care, fewer appointments
CKD rarely travels alone. Most of our patients also see internal medicine, sometimes pulmonology or behavioral health, and benefit from having those clinicians in the same building. We coordinate labs, share records internally, and use telehealth for routine follow-up when it's safe and convenient.
